Efficient wavelength-tunable deep-diced ridge waveguide lasers in bulk Yb3+:CaF2 crystal

چکیده

Channel (ridge) waveguides are produced in bulk 4.5 at.% Yb3+:CaF2 crystals by “deep” diamond saw dicing. They possess a rectangular profile with high aspect ratio (a width of 10–50 ?m and depth 200 ?m) good verticality. The r.m.s. surface roughness the diced side walls is only 0.5 nm. waveguide propagation losses as low 0.13 ± 0.05 dB/cm at ~1 (for 40 wide TM-polarization) they slightly increase for narrower structures. A continuous-wave laser generated maximum output power 723 mW 1029–1051 nm slope efficiency ? 76.0% (vs. absorbed pump power), threshold 165 mW, multimode (M2x = 1.05, M2y 1.3). exhibited lower better performance TM polarized (as compared to TE one). emission was partially polarized. allowed continuous wavelength tuning between 1009 1072 (tuning range: 63 nm). developed promising compact integrated mode-locked sources ?m.
